Emergency weekend subfloor reinforcement and click-lock plank reset on Bloomfield Road in Cape Girardeau
The property owner contacted our dispatch line on a Thursday morning reporting excessive plank deflection and separated end joints along a high-traffic hallway leading to the kitchen. The existing floating vinyl had been installed eighteen months prior over an unlevel 3/4-inch oriented strand board subfloor without prior grinding or perimeter expansion clearance. When heavy furniture was moved across the span, the rigid core locking tongues snapped, resulting in loose, shifting boards.
We arrived with our mobile tool rig, compound saw station, and laser level. We carefully unclicked 180 square feet of intact vinyl plank, numbering each row for reassembly. Using a rotary floor planer and industrial dust extraction, we eliminated a 3/8-inch high crown over eight feet of joist span. We sistered two sagging joists beneath the crawlspace entrance, anchored the subfloor with two-and-a-half-inch Torx wood screws every six inches, and applied high-strength patch compound before reinstalling the customer's planks with proper 5/16-inch perimeter expansion clearances under freshly undercut door jambs.
